According to the grandson, former President Jimmy Carter continues to savor ice cream and spend quality time with his family even after three months of receiving hospice care.
As
stated by the grandson, former President Jimmy Carter is in a positive state at
his residence in Georgia, where he has been receiving hospice care for three
months. Carter, 98, remains in high spirits alongside former First Lady
Rosalynn, 95. According to his grandson Jason Carter, the couple spends time
with family, keeps updated on The Carter Center's humanitarian endeavors
worldwide, and indulges in regular servings of ice cream.

During
an interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday, Jason Carter remarked,
"They’re just meeting with family right now, but they’re doing it in the
best possible way: the two of them together at home." He added,
"They’ve been together 70-plus years. They also know that they’re not in
charge. Their faith is really grounding at this moment. In that way, it’s as
good as it can be."
In
February, Carter, the longest-lived U.S. president, disclosed that he would be
under end-of-life care at his modest house in Plains, Georgia, where they
resided when he was initially elected to the state Senate in 1962. The decision
was made due to his multiple hospital visits earlier this year. Following the
announcement, an outpouring of well-wishes and tributes was sent to the Carter
family.

Jason Carter mentioned that this support has been one of the blessings of the past couple of months, providing his grandfather the opportunity to witness the heartfelt messages, which has been gratifying for him. It also shed light on the couple's extensive global humanitarian work since co-founding The Carter Center in 1982.

Jason Carter further
shared that his grandfather continues to enjoy peanut butter ice cream. Despite
their fame as a presidential couple, he emphasized that they are "just
like all of y’all’s grandparents," jokingly mentioning their South Georgia
roots by saying, "I mean, to the extent y’all’s grandparents are rednecks
from south Georgia. If you go down there even today, next to their sink they
have a little rack where they dry Ziplock bags."
Andrew Young, who
served as Carter's U.N. Ambassador in 1977 and worked as an aide to the Rev.
Martin Luther King Jr., recently visited the Carters. Young expressed his
pleasure at being able to share laughter and reminisce about old times with the
couple.
Young commended
Carter's efforts for unity and expressed his belief that "the world can
come to Georgia and show everybody how to live together."
Jimmy Carter is set to celebrate his 99th birthday this year, as he was born on October 1, 1924.
